Brisbane: Aussie linchpin batsman Steve Smith made a phenomenal comeback to Test cricket. One of World’s best Test batsmen in recent times - Smith was in exceptional form as he scored a whopping 774 runs at an average of 110.57 in the Ashes 2019.
After the end of the 1st Test against Pakistan on Sunday, Smith punished himself by running all the way back from the Gabba stadium to the team hotel as he missed the team bus. The Aussie great punishing himself can also be seen as the ‘after effect’ of the rare batting failure in 1st Test against Pakistan.
"I always punish myself when I get no runs, just like I reward myself when I score runs with a chocolate bar at the end of the night if I get a hundred," he said. "So yeah, if I get no runs I always like to have a run or go to the gym or do something just to give myself a bit of a punishment," Steve Smith said on Tuesday.
The stylish Australian batsman looked to continue his great run in the Test series against Pakistan. However, he failed to deliver with the bat and got dismissed for just 4 runs by Pakistan leg-spinner Yasir Shah.
What made the dismissal more frustrating for Smith was that spinner Yasir bagged Smith’s wicket for the 7 th time in 11 innings in Test cricket. The leg-spinner celebrated Smith’s departure by raising 7 fingers in the air to signal he has gotten Smith out 7 times in Tests.
